Holocaust survivor Abba Naor, who tells his story for the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial in numerous eyewitness talks in Bavarian schools, will be a guest at the Munich Documentation Centre for the History of National Socialism on Thursday, 22 February 2024, at 7 p.m. for a public talk. Admission is free.
Abba Naor, born Abba Nauchowicz in Kovno (Lithuania) in 1928, was sent to the ghetto in Kaunas, Lithuania, at the age of 13. His older brother was shot there. The family was deported to the Stutthof concentration camp. His mother and younger brother are deported to Auschwitz when he sees them for the last time. He volunteers for Kaufering I, the infamous subcamp of Dachau concentration camp. On 2 May 1945, at the age of 17, he was liberated by US Army units on the death march in Waakirchen near Bad Tölz. He finds his father again and emigrates to Israel, where he fights in the War of Independence. Contemporary witness Abba Naor talks about his experiences and memories of the Nazi era and his everyday life in the concentration camps. The event is a cooperation between the Munich NS Documentation Centre and the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial.
